April 19, 2007-I was all pumped as I sat down in front of the TV last night to watch the Seattle Mariners play the Minnesota Twins at Safeco Field. The main reason was because Felix Hernandez was making his third start of the 2007 season. King Felix was coming off his complete game shutout aginst Dice-K and the Boston Red Sox. But, something wasn’t right as Felix was leaving his pitches up and the Twins had loaded the bases due to some walks. He was kind of wincing in pain a bit. Almost immediately Mike Hargrove and the entire Mariners coaching staff called timeout and ran out to the mound to check on Hernandez. At that time, Hargrove pulled Felix out of the game. As it turns out, Felix had tightning of the elbow. I can see why the Mariners took him out of the game. He is their main guy (Besides Ichiro). Remember last years injury to Francisco Liriano? Or Mark Prior? The Mariners have got to be careful with this guy or he can eventually blow out his arm. So, it was a great decision to get him out of there. Meanwhile, the Twins won the game 5-4. But, the Mariners made it interesting in the ninth inning. Jose Vidro singled in Jose Lopez and Adrian Beltre was thrown out at homeplate trying to score the tying run. That ended the game as Minnesota won.
